Recent History

Cambodia has suffered beyond measure over the past thirty years. It is recovering from those years of genocide and war, and is consequently one of the poorest countries in the world. Widespread poverty, a devastated infrastructure, corruption, inadequate health and education services, an agricultural base held back by hidden land mines and an absence of needed machinery and a depletion of trained personnel in all sectors make the rebuilding of the nation very difficult.
